AbTeC Machinima Workshop

We designed a workshop that taught young people how to use virtual environments in order to film and create a movie.

Date: October 21 – 22, 2010
Location: ImagineNative Film + Media Arts Festival, Toronto

In this 2-day workshop, youth learned the basics of machinima, a new media practice that uses virtual environments to create actors and sets; software cameras to film the action; and standard digital video editing tools to edit the results into a narrative. Using the shared online 3D space Second Life, youth learned how to customize avatars, build objects and structures, record action and edit a movie. The outcome was a 1-minute movie for each team.In teams of 2 or 3 participants, the youth created three short reenactments of their favourite film or music video.
